National Library Week, April 23 -28, will be celebrated with
open houses Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The Director
distributed a copy of the news article with the week's
activities noted. On Saturday there will be a Storytelling
Bonanza with four guest storytellers. Special displays about
the history of the Library and the Culbertsons are in place.
The Summer Reading Club will be in June and July and the theme
is "Read, Read, Read!" with prizes and certificates at the
completion of each level of achievement.
The Director advised both Bywaters' posters ( "Oil Field Girls"
and "On The Ranch ") will be framed by the Art Market and later
hung in appropriate locations.
The Director reported that she and Pamela Sidnell, Youth
Librarian, attended the Texas Library Annual Conference in
Dallas. They participated in several meetings and workshops
and spent time at various automation and vendor exhibits.
Rogene Patterson also attended and commented about the
conference.
The Director noted "Bibliofile ", the classification software,
is updated quarterly and provides for accurate, standardized
classification of all materials. She also noted the uniform
library card, which would be accepted at all libraries in a
state, for example, is being discussed by the Texas State
Library and would probably be instituted in the future.
Jackie Alsobrook said there would be a White House Conference
on Libraries and Information Science in 1991. More information
will be forthcoming.
Jackie Alsobrook moved the bill for the Bywaters family
photographs of $47.90 provided by Dr. Sam Ratcliffe, S.M.U., be
paid from the endowment fund. Motion seconded, discussed and
passed.
The motion to pay for 72 juvenile sports books from the
endowment fund did not receive a second.
Rogene Patterson remarked the funds should be watched so as to
be able to purchase automation software.
The meeting adjourned at 5:15 P.M.
/O ✓ .' y -L -. %/7 Erin C.' .t,
Dat Approved Frances Ellis, Secretary
