MINUTES <br />PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />May 17, 1990 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, May 17, 1990, at 4 P.M. in the Library Gallery <br />with Bill Hagood, Chairman, presiding and these members <br />present: Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, <br />Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Bill Neely and Eric Tate were absent. Beverly <br />Lewis Campbell, Library Director and Claire Haslam, <br />President of the Friends attended. <br />Minutes of the April 18, 1990, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />The Director discussed the City Budget Report, saying the <br />maintenance and supply accounts were still over, but noted <br />these were accounts cut from the initial request made for <br />this year's budget. <br />She said the total circulation was 79,828 for the year to <br />date, up 15.2% over 1989 and April's circulation was <br />12,205, up 12.250 over last year. The eight evenings had <br />a circulation of 534 and 2500 reference requests were <br />handled this month. <br />The Director discussed the accessions list, saying 133 <br />adult fiction were added; 214 non - fiction; 167 juvenile <br />fiction, and 36 juvenile non - fiction. 120 videocassettes <br />were added. <br />She explained the Summer Reading Club program and <br />distributed a calendar noting the twice - weekly activities. <br />It will begin June 2 and end July 28. She spoke to the <br />North Lamar parent- teachers organization about it, and she <br />and Pamela Sidnell will be on "Inside Paris" May 24. The <br />calendar and cover letter were sent to all schools and the <br />usual media sources will be used to promote the program. <br />The three sponsors are McDonalds, Pizza Inn and Sonic. <br />John Rendsland from the New Day Kiwanis Club will be the <br />guest storyteller for four storytelling festivals. <br />She distributed bookmarks promoting the "Dial -A- Story" <br />service which were designed and laminated by a staff <br />member. <br />
