MINUTES PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD May 17, 1990 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session, May 17, 1990, at 4 P.M. in the Library Gallery with Bill Hagood, Chairman, presiding and these members present: Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Bill Neely and Eric Tate were absent. Beverly Lewis Campbell, Library Director and Claire Haslam, President of the Friends attended. Minutes of the April 18, 1990, meeting were approved as circulated. The Director discussed the City Budget Report, saying the maintenance and supply accounts were still over, but noted these were accounts cut from the initial request made for this year's budget. She said the total circulation was 79,828 for the year to date, up 15.2% over 1989 and April's circulation was 12,205, up 12.250 over last year. The eight evenings had a circulation of 534 and 2500 reference requests were handled this month. The Director discussed the accessions list, saying 133 adult fiction were added; 214 non - fiction; 167 juvenile fiction, and 36 juvenile non - fiction. 120 videocassettes were added. She explained the Summer Reading Club program and distributed a calendar noting the twice - weekly activities. It will begin June 2 and end July 28. She spoke to the North Lamar parent- teachers organization about it, and she and Pamela Sidnell will be on "Inside Paris" May 24. The calendar and cover letter were sent to all schools and the usual media sources will be used to promote the program. The three sponsors are McDonalds, Pizza Inn and Sonic. John Rendsland from the New Day Kiwanis Club will be the guest storyteller for four storytelling festivals. She distributed bookmarks promoting the "Dial -A- Story" service which were designed and laminated by a staff member.
