PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
MINUTES
October 24, 1990
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, Wednesday, October 24, 1990, at 4 P.M. in the
Gallery with Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding, and
these members present: Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson,
Bill Neely, and Beth Shelton. Beverly Lewis, Library
Director, attended. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook, BIll
Hagood, Frances Ellis, and Delores Hayter, President of
the Friends.
Minutes of the September 19, 1990, meeting were approved
as mailed.
Lewis made statistical reports first. Circulation
increased 20.35% over September of last year with a 19.78%
increase for the fiscal year. Evening circulation was
down this month, but evening reference assistance is up.
There were 47 memorials /gifts in September. Concerning
accessions, this month we are receiving our last full
accessions list because of the time involved in making the
list; from now on we will receive only the numerical
statistics for accessions.
The Director gave a report on TCLIS, which she attended
with Mike Malone. Jackie Alsobrook was elected as one of
six representatives of library supporters in our region to
attend the state conference. Malone was selected as the
first alternate for municipal representatives. Twelve
resolutions were passed to be taken to the Austin
conference: four each in literacy, in democracy, and in
productivity.
The Board reviewed the Library Account: see handout
attached.
There were no copies available of the budget report. In
summary, the Library received $70,000 for materials, cut
from the $78,000 request. There will be no new staff and
no cuts in hours.
The Board discussed appointing a new member to fill out
the rest of Eric Tate's term. No action was taken.
There was no formal Friend's report.
The historical marker discussion was tabled until Frances
Ellis can report.
