MINUTES PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING December 19, 1990 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met for the Christmas meeting in the home of the Chairman, Mrs. Virginia Gibbs, December 19, 1990, with Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, Bill Hagood, and Frances Ellis, Secretary, attending. Absent was Bill Neely. Delores Hayter, President of the Friends, City Manager Mike Malone, City Finance Director Gene Anderson, and Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay Representative, were present. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, attended. Chairman Gibbs wlecomed the guests and announced that Joe Rex had been appointed a new member of the Board. The Minutes of the November 28, 1990, meeting were approved as mailed. Ms. Lewis reported the Library completed the fiscal year under budget. She reported circulation was up 41.5% over the 1989 November figure with 14,510 items checked out. The circulation for the fiscal year to date (two months) was 28,425 which is an increase of 99% for this same period last year. Mrs. Patterson commented that schools were requiring more writing by students who were thus using libraries more. The evening hours are still being well attended with much reference assistance being provided and reference resources being used. There were 30 memorials given in November. The accessions report noted 525 items added during November: 404 were adult titles and 121 juvenile. Mrs. Hayter said the Friends were planning the February 22 book review luncheon to be held at Paris Junior College in the ballroom of the student center. Ethel Sexton of Dallas will give the review. She discussed memberships, saying a few dribbled in, but a drive would be made during the luncheon. Mrs. Gibbs recommended working on the $25 business memberships.
