Ms. Lewis noted the volunteer recognition would be a <br />buffet meal served in the Library Gallery at 6 P.M. <br />January 10 with the Board providing the food. She said <br />invitations had been sent to each volunteer and about 62 <br />might be attending. She recommended further recognition <br />be given each volunteer for each year of service for the <br />Library by having each select a book that would be placed <br />in the collection with their names in it as an honoree. <br />The Board members agreed. <br />Ms. Lewis spoke about her column in The Paris News which <br />gave information about Texas Library System Membership and <br />its requirements; that there are now more than 51,000 <br />books, 1,000 videos, 1,300 audio casettes, and about 3,600 <br />periodicals and 1,100 paperbacks; total c irculat -ion had <br />increased by 20% with 154,000 items checked out, <br />especially adult non - fiction, juvenile materials, and <br />videos; 63% more patrons used the Interlibrary Loan <br />service, and 67% more children called the Dial -A -Story <br />telephone number 785 -0161. She wrote that the Library <br />finished the year under budget, success of the evening <br />hours from 6 to 8 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, providing <br />1,100 reference helps; and a holiday amnesty period was <br />declared on overdue library materials for the last week in <br />December and the first week in January. <br />Malone spoke briefly as did Anderson and Seay. <br />Ms. Lewis reported an invitation to the Bywaters exhibit <br />at SMU for the Board, but the exhibit closed December 17. <br />Mrs. Gibbs presented Jackie Alsobrook a small clock from <br />the Board as a token of appreciation for her work with <br />NETLS. <br />Date Approved Frances A.
