PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />MINUTES <br />August 14, 1991 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, August 14, 1991, at 4 PM in the Gallery with <br />Virginia Gibbs, Chairman, presiding. Members present were <br />Jackie Alsobrook, Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Bill Neely, <br />Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Joe Rex was absent. Also attending were <br />Beverly Lewis, Library Director; Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay <br />Representative; and Delores Hayter, President of the <br />Friends of the Library. <br />Chairman Gibbs called for the report of the Nominating <br />Committee and Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. Patterson reported the <br />nomination of Neely for Chairman and Mrs. Shelton for <br />Vice - Chairman, with Mrs. Ellis continuing as Secretary. <br />Mrs. Ellis moved the acceptance of the report and the <br />election of the three; motion was seconded, and passed. <br />Neely then presided. The minutes of the June 19 meeting <br />were approved as circulated. The July meeting was the <br />trip to Canton for the NETLS meeting where City Manager <br />Michael Malone was presented the "Government Official of <br />the Year" award for his work with the Library. <br />Lewis discussed the budget report, calling attention to <br />the 77.13% expended to date which is under budget. <br />Circulation is up 59 percent the last two years. She said <br />the evenings are proving successful and 912 items <br />circulated in the July evenings. She explained the Young <br />Adult or Teen books were moved into the adult section of <br />the Library and their circulation has increased since <br />removing them from the children's section. <br />She explained that 374 adult books were accessioned in <br />July, bringing the total to 52,713. <br />Lewis discussed her presentation to the City Council on <br />August 3 about the requested budget for 1991 -1992, saying <br />members listened especially to the plans for automation <br />and how the Board recommended financing in the two year <br />period. She distributed new figures on the cost of <br />automation, noting the increase would make it about <br />$180,000, instead of the $140,000 amount noted at the June <br />Board meeting. <br />
