PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY <br />ADVISORY BOARD MEETING JANUARY 15, 1992 <br />Minutes <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, January 15, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with <br />Chairman Bill Neely presiding and these members present: <br />Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, Joe Rex and <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook, <br />Virginia Gibbs and Bill Hagood. Beverly Lewis, Library <br />Director, was present. Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay <br />Representative, and Delores Hayter, President of the <br />Friends of the Library, were absent. <br />Minutes of the December 18, 1991, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Budget saying expenditures were on <br />schedule. Regarding circulation, she noted this past <br />month showed a decrease in circulation of .067 %, the first <br />decrease in more than three years. She said 82 items less <br />were checked out in December compared to December last <br />year with the juvenile circulation being down and the <br />adult up. She advised 350 accessions had been made and <br />119 items had been weeded. No new card holders were added <br />to the computer because the staff member responsible had <br />been on sick leave. <br />Ms. Lewis discussed the Volunteer Recognition, January 22, <br />starting at 5:40 PM with visiting in the foyer. Grandy's <br />would cater the meal. The Program after the meal would <br />include Chairman Neely, City Manager Michael Malone, and <br />Ms. Lewis. Entertainment would be storyteller John <br />Rendsland and "Dino Bingo ". A display of children's <br />materials would be set up. <br />She also spoke about the March 4 NETLS Workshop in the <br />Gallery, asking that the Board members be visible and <br />provide hospitality coffee and doughnuts during <br />registration for the forty attending, plus drinks and <br />afternoon snacks. Either the Board or the Friends usually <br />do this at NETLS meetings. The program will be <br />"Negotiating with Politicians for Funding ". <br />She also suggested that the Board consider replacing the <br />live plants in the foyer with silk plants. <br />During her remarks, Ms. Lewis noted the January sale of <br />books and magazines was going well. At 10 cents each, 848 <br />items had been sold to date. <br />
