PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY
MINUTES
ADVISORY BOARD MEETING, FEBRUARY 19, 1992
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular
session, February 19, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with
Chairman Bill Neely presiding, and these members present:
Jean Gibson, Bill Hagood, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, Beth
Shelton, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Jackie
Alsobrook and Virginia Gibbs. Beverly Lewis, Library
Director, attended; and Thomas Seay, NETLS Lay
Representative. Delores Hayter, President of the Friends
of the Library, was absent.
Minutes of the January 15 meeting were approved as
circulated.
Budget figures were studied, but no problems were
discussed.
In the Statistical Report, circulation for January was
14,464 for books, and 3,421 for non - books, which was only
a .7% increase over January 1991; so it appears the
increase for the past three years in the new facility may
be leveling off, as could be expected. Ms. Lewis
commented that audio books are very popular and that the
video circulation is staying fairly constant. She noted
evening checkouts were high, with one having been 126
items.
Ms. Lewis said about 500 new books had been accessioned,
with half of them adults; 72 videos, and 12 audios were
added. She advised 57 memorials and /or gifts were given
in January, totaling about $750.
Ms. Lewis said notes of thanks had been received from many
volunteers for the January recognition dinner, and
suggested that a day time meal and program be considered
for 1993.
She said the March 4 NETLS workshop about effective
library supporter politics would begin at 9:30 AM with
coffee and registration, with the Board as hosts. She
asked Jean Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, and Frances Ellis to
prepare the coffee, tea, and juice with doughnuts and
fruits; and the motion was made by Mrs. Ellis that the
Board pay for this, motion seconded and passed.
The workshop focus will be on guidance in working with
elected officials, with emphasis at city and county level,
as well as state level. Lunch will be catered for $4.50
by Grandy's and the meeting will be over by 3 PM following
the panel discussion.
