Mrs. Ellis reported on a meeting with Neely, Lewis, and
Sallie Cecil, January 22 when plans were discussed for the
recognition of Paris artists, W. R. and J. R. Thrasher.
The thinking was that it could be similar to the Bywaters
program and exhibit, but limited to a week - with two
weekends. Neely and Ellis went to see Mrs. Jerry Thrasher
who said she would discuss this with her husband and his
father, and she called two weeks later to say they would
be very honored to have such recognition and would help
get paintings for the display and help hang them. Follow
up phone calls to Mrs. Cecil for information about any
help from the Paris Arts Alliance indicated none would be
available for 1992, and if any funds were left over or
returned, application could be made for this in the
summer. Otherwise, it would be September 1993 before any
grant could come. The Arts Alliance is working hard on
the National Shakespeare Company's March 7 production at
Paris High School, project for the year.
The Paris Art Study Club with Ellen Beard of Clarksville,
President, could support the exhibit and provide docents,
but not funds.
Neely estimated about 200 hours of security at $8 an hour
or so, would be the main expense. He said we could
continue to talk about it and check possible sources of
help from the Library Board Funds and others, to discuss
it more at the March 18 meeting.
Ms. Lewis reported reservations are being taken for the
$15 dollar book review luncheon hosted by the Friends at
the Paris Golf Club, March 27.
She discussed the American Disabilities Act, which every
Library and other public places are having to check for
compliance, saying the Library needed door signs in the
restrooms, and she had purchased them for $15; and the
pressure openings on the front doors would have to be
remedied.
Members discussed the request to the County for funding
for Library services, and,Ms. Lewis said the users' survey
would be completed by April 1.
The meeting adjourned at 5:10 PM.
IV
10?, ltd 3, / " ✓7 . u
Date Approved Frances Ellis, Secretary
