PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD MEETING <br />MARCH 18, 1992 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular <br />session, March 18, 1992, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Vice <br />Chairman Beth Shelton, presiding and these members <br />present: Virginia Gibbs, Jean Gibson, Rogene Patterson, <br />and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Bill Neely, <br />Chairman; Jackie Alsobrook, Bill Hagood, and Joe Rex. <br />Beverly Lewis, Library Director, attended, and Thomas <br />Seay, NETLS Lay Representative; Delores Hayter, of the <br />Friends was also present. <br />Minutes of the February 19, 1992, meeting were approved as <br />circulated. <br />Budget figures were studied; no problems discussed. <br />In the Statistical Report, total circulation showed an <br />increase of 8.25% over last year. There were 1,960 items <br />circulated during the evening hours. <br />Ms. Lewis announced 47 memorials and gifts given during <br />February. <br />She said reports of the Paris - hosted NETLS workshop were <br />complimentary - for the hospitality, friendliness, food, <br />and program. There were 43 attendees. She thanked Jean <br />Gibson, Virginia Gibbs, and Frances Ellis for their help; <br />and Virginia moved the cost of the food - $35.57 - be <br />approved for payment. Motion seconded and passed. <br />Ms. Lewis called attention to the picture the next day in <br />The Paris News of the people at the workshop, with the two <br />speakers, Mrs. Ruth Nicholson and Keith Oakley, featured. <br />Mrs. Ellis reported on the status of plans for the <br />recognition of the Paris artists, W. R. and J. R. <br />Thrasher, saying there is a possibility that the Paris <br />Arts Alliance would be able to help financially if <br />application is made. <br />Each member discussed the fears that the paintings would <br />be stolen or damaged, and the possibility of a shorter <br />recognition display. Members agreed to wait until <br />Chairman Neely returns and a visit to the Thrashers takes <br />place to help decide if the recognition is feasible, when, <br />and for how long the exhibit of their two originals plus <br />some prints, would be made. <br />
