PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />September 18, 1996 <br />MINITTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session <br />Wednesday, September 18, 1996, in the Texas History room at <br />4:00 PM with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding and these members <br />present: Jackie Alsobrook,Toni Donnan, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene <br />Patterson,Ralph Rodgers, Keitt Wood; and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director was present. Absent <br />were Kathie Gibbs, Friends President and Joe Rex. <br />The August 21,1996 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis distributed the Budget Report and she said expenditures <br />were in line for the fiscal year to date. She also advised that <br />the 1996 -1997 Budget Request was approved by the City Council. <br />The department total is $588,999 with $126,000 for materials. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and discussed. The August <br />circulation this year was 4.9% higher than the same month last <br />year with 22,543 items circulated. Ms. Lewis noted the overall <br />year to date circulation is 22% higher than last year because <br />238,623 items have been checked out. <br />Ms. Lewis advised 799 items were added to the collection in <br />August. Reserve requests were up with 390 patrons using that <br />service. There were no children's programs in August because the <br />staff uses that time to prepare for the fall and winter programs. <br />In August the Library received 65 memorials and gifts and <br />registered 293 new patrons. <br />The Board discussed the proposed By -Laws and upon motion by <br />Jackie Alsobrook, second by Toni Donnan, they were amended as <br />distributed by a unanimous hand vote. <br />Ms. Lewis showed a picture of Billy the Book which she had <br />received from Robotronics, the company that is making the robot. <br />All agreed Billy should be an exciting addition to the Library. <br />Billy is scheduled to be shipped soon. <br />- continued- <br />
