PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JANUARY 15, 1997 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, January 15, 1997, at <br />4 PM in the Texas History Room. Vice Chairman Joe Rex presided and these members were <br />present: Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, Keitt Wood, and Secretary, Frances Ellis. Library <br />Director Beverly Lewis was also present. Chairman Beth Shelton, Jackie Alsobrook, Toni <br />Donnan, Ralph Rodgers, and Friends of the Library President, Kathie Gibbs, were absent. <br />The December 18, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis advised expenditures listed in the Budget Report were on target for the first three <br />months of the fiscal year. <br />Circulation to date is 12% ahead of last year with 65,860 items checked out in the first three <br />months of this fiscal year. December 1996 was also ahead of last year and 18,004 items circulated <br />which was a 3.5 % increase. <br />680 new books, videos, and audio books were added to the collection in December and the <br />collection total is about 75,215 titles. There are 11,418 registered patrons. <br />Ms. Lewis noted the Amnesty Period would begin February 14 and during the three week period <br />any overdue item could be returned free of any overdue charge. <br />The video diagnostics machine arrived and payment could be made. One staff person and one <br />volunteer will be trained to use it. <br />The "Whatever" promotion will be held in late spring with the slogan "Whatever Your Question <br />Is, Your Library Has The Answer." In- library displays and signs will feature the reference and <br />non - fiction collections in particular. <br />The Board expressed sincere sympathy to Beth Shelton on the death of her Father, Edward Bell. <br />Upon motion by Keitt Wood, second by Frances Ellis, it was unanimously decided to place a <br />book in the Library's collection in his memory. <br />The Board also expressed appreciation to Beth Shelton for hosting the December meeting in her <br />home. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5 PM. <br />�2 // <br />Frances A.
