FEBRUARY 26, 1997 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, February 26, 1997, <br />at 4 PM in the Texas History Room. Chairman Beth Shelton presided and these members were <br />present: Jackie Alsobrook, Toni Donnan, Virginia Gibbs, Rogene Patterson, Joe Rex, Keitt <br />Wood, and Secretary, Frances Ellis. Friends President Kathie Gibbs and Library Director Beverly <br />Lewis were also present. Ralph Rodgers was absent. <br />The January 15, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis advised expenditures listed in the Budget Report were on target for the first four <br />months of FY 96 -97. <br />Circulation to date is 16.1% ahead of last year and 91,076 items have been checked out in the first <br />four months of this fiscal year. January was also ahead of last year because 25, 216 items <br />circulated which was a 28 % increase. <br />1,120 new books, videos, and audio books were added to the collection in January and more than <br />half of those titles were juvenile items. <br />Ms. Lewis noted the Amnesty Period is progress and to date there have been some returns but not <br />an overwhelming number. <br />Billy the Book has a new handler, RSVP volunteer Carroll Tiller <br />Keitt Wood reported the recent Northeast Texas Library System meeting was very informative. <br />She attended with Kathie Gibbs and Judy Vickers. She said the publicity tips distributed should <br />be helpful and it was mentioned the Texas Center for the Humanities was a good source for <br />speakers and displays. <br />Ms .Lewis reported Lamar County Days in Austin was very productive. About 55 attended and <br />met with area legislators and agency representatives. She said she carried her Paris Public Library <br />tote bag everywhere. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Children's Department will again participate in the Art Fair which will be <br />Saturday, May 17, on the downtown plaza. We will have a booth in the Children's Corner and <br />give puppet shows and balloon animals. In addition, the Friends of the Library will sponsor the <br />"Books Come Alive" contest where children can dress up as their favorite book characters. <br />
