PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JULY 16, 997 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at 4 <br />PM in the Texas History Room with Chairman Beth Shelton presiding. Present were Toni <br />Donnan, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Keitt Wood; and Frances Ellis, <br />Secretary. Catharine Browning, Friends President, and Beverly Lewis, Library Director were <br />present. Absent were Jackie Alsobrook and Ralph Rodgers. <br />The June 16, 1997, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis reported expenditures were right in line with budget projections for the first nine <br />months of the fiscal year, as noted in the Budget Report that was distributed. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and Ms. Lewis noted 221,035 items have been circulated <br />which is a 16.3% increase year to date over the same period last year. Also, June, 1997, was <br />busier by 5.8% than the same month last year and 26,666 items circulated. <br />There were 774 new books, videos, and audio books added to the collection in June. The <br />collection includes 72,613 books; 3,000 audio books; and 5,835 videos. <br />It was noted there are 13,886 registered library card holders. <br />Chairman Beth Shelton appointed Toni Donnan, Virginia Gibbs and Rogene Patterson to serve <br />on the nominating committee. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Library won `Best Marching Entry" in the Celebrate America Parade. 55 <br />kids participated and many walked ahead of our entry carrying the library banners, followed by <br />the Mobile Library which towed a colorfully decorated float on which rode Billy Book, kids, and <br />adults. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed pizza in the library. <br />The Summer Reading Club is in progress and there has been excellent attendance at the <br />activities offered each Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In June, 770 kids and adults <br />participated. This summer, two JTPA students and three junior volunteers are helping with the <br />programs. <br />Ms. Lewis advised that in June, 13 students from Chisum Elementary took their AR tests in the <br />Library. <br />-MORE- <br />
