PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />APRIL 22, 1998 <br />I�II�l�1iY�:7 <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, April 22, 1998, in <br />the Gallery at 4 PM with Chairman Keitt Wood presiding. Members present were Jackie <br />Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Ralph Rodgers, Beth Shelton, and <br />Frances Ellis, Secretary. Absent were Curtis Fendley and Friends President Catharine Browning. <br />Library Director Beverly Lewis was present. <br />New Board member Curtis Fendley was welcomed although he was unable to attend this <br />meeting. <br />The March 18, 1998, Minutes were corrected to note National Library Week would begin April <br />18 and then approved as distributed. <br />The Budget Report was distributed and Ms. Lewis reported that for the first half of the Fiscal <br />Year, the Library's expenditures were in line with projections. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and it was noted there was a 6/10% decrease in circulation <br />in March '98 from March '97 although 26,246 items circulated. Circulation for the first six <br />months is a decrease of 1.1% from last year at the same time although 140,365 items have been <br />checked out to date. <br />The Board discussed inviting City Council members to the Library for a tour and luncheon. <br />Chairman Wood, Rogene Patterson and Jackie Alsobrook will serve on the arrangements <br />committee. <br />The Children's Department held 15 programs last month that were attended by 175 kids and 99 <br />adults. 60 kids told about a book they had read and received free Circus tickets. Beverly Lewis <br />and Linda Orr attended Kids Safe Saturday and distributed 550 activity booklets which featured <br />the theme "Reading Keeps Kids Safe ". <br />Materials were delivered to 9 senior locations and 1 homebound patron last month for a total of <br />293 books, 42 videos, 76 audio books and 46 periodicals. Beginning next week, the senior <br />locations will keep the videos for three weeks. <br />
