PAGE 2 <br />LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD 04/22/98 MINUTES <br />Ms. Lewis advised Board members to look at the large, colorful banner outside which states <br />"Celebrate National Library Week ". The Library is decorated inside and trucks of new materials <br />are placed throughout the building. The Library was featured in the special section of The Paris <br />News and both Ms. Lewis' regular column about the Library and a special editorial about early <br />childhood literacy were included. <br />Ms. Lewis noted the application for the discounted telecommunications rate (E -Rate) is still in <br />progress and bids have been accepted to complete the work before July 1. <br />Ms. Lewis provided information about the Internet which should be available to the public <br />sometime later this summer. She noted most libraries provide the Internet without filters and <br />also provide patrons with information about recommended homework and reference sites. <br />John Howison announced that on August 8 there will be a Funeral Parade to honor Sam Bell <br />Maxey and he will provide details later. <br />The Friends April 27 benefit luncheon was reported sold out and there is a waiting list. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Family Literacy Outreach Summer Project will continue this summer. <br />The Mobile Library will go to Aaron Parker Elementary School in Powderly instead of to the <br />Chicota Community Center and the Deport Elementary School has been added. Other sites <br />include Brookston Baptist Church, Roxton Elementary School and the Blossom Museum. The <br />programs for Even Start will be held at the Library this year. The Project begins Monday, June 8 <br />and concludes Friday, July 31. <br />The meeting concluded at 5:15 PM. <br />Frances A. Ellis, Secretary Approved <br />
