PAGE 2 <br />LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD 08 -19 -98 MINUTES <br />The Internet computers are ready for patrons to use and Ms. Lewis gave several Board members <br />a tour of the electronic reference area after the meeting. <br />After discussion, the Board decided to research the issue of the age when parental permission for <br />a library card is not required. Jackie Alsobrook and Rogene Patterson agreed to serve on a <br />committee with Ms. Lewis to look into the matter. <br />The Board discussed the matter of terms and the By -Laws and Chairman Wood asked Beth <br />Shelton and John Howison to serve on a committee to research the matter. <br />Upon motion by Curtis Fendley and second by Beth Shelton, the Board voted unanimously for <br />the following Board officers to serve for the next year: Chairman, Keitt Wood; Vice Chairman, <br />John Howison; and Secretary, Frances Ellis. <br />Ms. Lewis reported on the plans for the August 26 celebration of the Library's 72nd Birthday. <br />There would be a day long open house and Billy Book would be on hand to visit with guests. <br />Refreshments would also be available. A birthday banner will be hung outside over the main <br />sign and there will be special historical displays through the building. <br />Chairman Wood advised the Board that the Library Director's l Oth Anniversary would be <br />November Viand members agreed to host an anniversary celebration in her honor. <br />Catharine Browning reported the Friends had paid for painting the bulletin board borders, small <br />table and chairs in the Children's Room. The bright, primary colors are especially attractive in <br />that room. She also announced that Jimmye Hancock is the new Friends Vice - President. <br />The Board reaffirmed the $25 price of the Library commemorative plate. However, it was <br />decided to offer the plates for $20 each at the Friends October 12 benefit luncheon. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Lamar County historical hiles have been moved to a file cabinet beside <br />the Adult Reference desk to facilitate their use and to maintain better control of the somewhat <br />fragile papers. <br />The meeting adjourned at 5 PM. <br />Frances A.
