PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />SEPTEMBER 16, 1998 <br />1►Ili�li��`] <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, September 16, <br />1998, at 4 PM in the Gallery with Chairman Keitt Wood presiding and these members present: <br />Jackie Alsobrook, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Beth Shelton, and Frances <br />Ellis, Secretary. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, and Catharine Browning, Friends President <br />were also present. Absent were Curtis Fendley and Ralph Rodgers. <br />The August 19, 1998, Minutes were approved with the addition of the following sentence to the <br />Friends report: Marcia Thomas will present the program "High Tea and Old Lace" at the <br />October 12 Friends benefit luncheon. <br />Ms. Lewis reported that for the eleven months of this fiscal year, library expenditures were on <br />target with the Budget. She advised a public hearing would be held this date at 6 PM in City <br />Council chambers and encouraged all Board members to attend in support of the FY 98 -99 <br />Library Budget Request. <br />There were no children's programs in August. Instead, the staff planned and prepared for fall <br />programs which will begin the first week in September. <br />Outreach services are provided all year long and in August materials were delivered to twelve <br />locations and several home bound patrons. 849 books, 178 audio books, 172 videos and 50 <br />magazines circulated via this service. <br />Committee members Keitt Wood, Beth Shelton and John Howison met to discuss the issue of <br />terms for Board members and a proposed amendment to the By -Laws. A copy of the proposed <br />change was distributed and the recommendation was to include the following additional sentence <br />in Paragraph 1: "no member shall serve more than two consecutive full terms ". The Board <br />agreed to consider this matter and the proposal will be voted on at the next meeting. <br />Ms. Lewis advised she had been notified by the Texas State Library that Paris Public Library has <br />been re- certified as a member of the Northeast Texas Library System. She added our Library has <br />qualified as a NETLS member every year since 1976. <br />Catharine Browning reported the October 12 Friends benefit luncheon was sold out and a waiting <br />list had been started. <br />Chairman Wood advised there would be a 10th Anniversary reception in the Library for Director <br />Lewis on Thursday, November 12 from 10 AM until 6 PM.
