PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />NOVEMBER 18, 1998 <br />►iu►Yl <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session at 4 PM in the Texas History <br />Room with Chairman Keitt Wood presiding and these members present, Jackie Alsobrook, <br />Virginia Gibbs, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, and Frances Ellis, Secretary. Curtis Fendley, <br />Ralph Rodgers, and Beth Shelton were absent. Also present were Catharine Browning, Friends <br />President, and Beverly Lewis, Library Director. <br />The October 21, 1998 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis noted that the Budget Report indicated expenditures were in line for the first month of <br />the new fiscal year. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and it was noted 26,634 items were checked out in October <br />which was a 19% increase in circulation over the same month last year. Reference transactions <br />and reserve requests also increased. There were 761 new titles added to the collection last month <br />and 263 new library cards issued. At the end of October, the collection included 82,385 books; <br />3,948 audio books; and 7,624 videos. <br />Last month there were sixteen kids programs, including preschool storytimes, and school tours. <br />The overall attendance was 1,107 kids and 247 adults. 80 kids dressed as favorite book <br />characters attended the Library's first Halloween Party which was judged a huge success by <br />everyone involved. The kids received book mark prizes with appropriate descriptions, i.e. "Best <br />Princess ". <br />The Outreach Service Report indicated thirteen locations were served last month and 785 books, <br />196 audio books, 198 videos, and 68 periodicals were delivered. <br />Ms. Lewis thanked the Board and the Friends of the Library for the lovely 10th Anniversary <br />Reception given her on the 12th. She said 556 people signed the guest book that day. She also <br />advised she certainly loves the beautiful initial pin with the inscription "in appreciation" on the <br />back given to her by the Friends and the lovely pewter cross presented by the Board. <br />After discussion about the issue of county funding for the Library, upon motion by Jackie <br />Alsobrook, second by John Howison, it was unanimously approved to send a memorandum to <br />Mayor Charles Neeley requesting "a committee be formed to review the issue before the next <br />fiscal year's budget preparation begins." <br />
