PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />NOVEMBER 17, 1999 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, November 17, 1999, <br />at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present: <br />Curtis Fendley, Sarah Gambill, John Howison, Rogene Patterson, Nancee Salzman, and Bill <br />Strathern. Absent were Virginia Gibbs and Walter Williams. Library Director Beverly Lewis <br />was also present. Friends President Jimmye Hancock was absent. <br />The October 20, 1999, Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />The Budget Report was distributed and it was noted that in October, one month into the new <br />fiscal year, the department has expended 8.3% and both expenses and materials were on target. <br />The Statistical Report showed that 26,710 items circulated in October which was a slight, <br />increase (.3 %) over the same month last year. Reference assistance is down somewhat although <br />electronic reference assistance, which is tracked separately, has increased. Ms. Lewis noted that <br />other public libraries are experiencing the same trend. <br />Children's services included 40 programs with an attendance of 534 kids and 271 adults. The six <br />storytimes for babies were much appreciated by the parents and caregivers who attended with <br />their babies. <br />Senior outreach services included 14 groups and 8 homebound patrons and 1,050 books, 426 <br />videos, 338 audio books and 25 magazines were circulated to those special patrons. This <br />program continues to grow steadily and Ms. Lewis advised she would be seeking a volunteer to <br />help with it. <br />The security system has been completed successfully. It is armed each night in order to protect <br />our very valuable collection. <br />The following was brought up as new business. The Paris Junior College Parade was held <br />November 13th and the Mobile Library was an entry. The Library will also enter the City <br />Christmas Parade and the theme will be "When the weather outside is frightful, reading inside is <br />so delightful ". The kids will wear red stocking caps. <br />-MORE- <br />
