PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />APRIL 5, 2000 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session April 5, 2000, at 4 PM in <br />the Gallery with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present: Sarah <br />Gambil, Virginia Gibbs, John Howison and Secretary, Rogene Patterson. Library <br />Director Beverly Lewis was present. Absent were Curtis Fendley, Nancee Salzman, Bill <br />Strathern, Walter Williams; and Friends President, Jimmye Hancock. <br />The March 15, 2000 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />The Budget Report was not available because the meeting was held earlier in the month <br />than usual. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed and indicates in March the circulation was up <br />12.5 %. Not as many new items were added to the collection because the Electronic <br />Report was being prepared for the State Library. <br />There were 15 children's programs in March with 346 kids in attendance and 111 adults <br />in attendance. The most successful program was the American Girl Party that included <br />Victorian crafts, stories about Victorian times, and a delightful tea party with 41 girls <br />present and 1 boy who stayed with his sister to attend. Next month, Jerry Williams will <br />present a program about bugs which should greatly appeal to boys. <br />Adult outreach services accommodated 13 group sites and 9 homebound patrons. They <br />distributed 1,134 books; 318 audio books; 308 videos; and 60 magazines. <br />The John James Culbertson Historical Marker Dedication March 15 was a success and <br />attended by an estimated 55 persons and 30 came to the Library reception after. <br />Next week is National Library Week and there will be several special activities including <br />displays, and photo albums. Billy Book will be in the Library Tuesday and Thursday <br />afternoons and special storytimes will be held Wednesday and Thursday mornings. Also, <br />on Saturday afternoon there will be a video series about baby animals and refreshments <br />will be served. <br />Ms. Lewis advised the Library had won a Texas Book Festival Award in the amount of <br />$2,400 which will be used to purchase puppet/book sets, big books and special format <br />board books for the Mobile Library. First Lady of Texas Laura Bush will present the <br />award Wednesday, April 12 at the Texas Library Association Conference in Houston. <br />Ms. Lewis and the children's librarians will attend. <br />
