Ms. Lewis also advised the Friends have generously agreed to support a Children's <br />Department Assistant for four days each week, four hours each day because it is so busy <br />in the Children's Room, especially in the afternoons. The Friends will also purchase <br />supplies for the Summer Reading Club programs and the Celebrate America float. <br />In addition, the Library received a $6,000 grant from Project Save, under the auspices of <br />the Lamar County Coalition of Education, Business and Industry, to fund an assistant and <br />books for the Mobile Library Summer Reading Service. <br />Ms. Lewis attended the recent Public Library Association Conference and reported it was <br />very informative. She mentioned two specific needs the Library has and that she gained <br />information about each in order to made purchase decisions later, namely, laser barcode <br />scanners; and self check equipment. <br />The Board discussed relaxing the policies about food and drink in the building and noted <br />the traditional "quiet" library is no longer.
