PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD <br />JANUARY 17, 2001 <br />MINUTES <br />The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, January 17, <br />2001, at 4 Pm in the Gallery with Vice - Chairman John Howison presiding and these <br />members present: Curtis Fendley, Fran Neeley, Nancee Salzman, and Rogene Patterson. <br />Excused were Jackie Alsobrook and Sarah Gambill. Absent were Bill Strathern and <br />Walter Williams. Jimmy Hancock, Friends President, and Beverly Lewis, Library <br />Director were also present. <br />The 12/13/00 Minutes were approved as distributed. <br />Ms. Lewis distributed the October, November and December Budget Reports and noted <br />expenditures were on target for the first quarter of this fiscal year, based on a review of <br />individual line items. <br />The Statistical Report was distributed also and it was noted that in December there was a <br />3.7 % increase in circulation over the same month last year. The first quarter report <br />showed a total circulation of 77,743 items in October, November and December; which <br />is a 9% increase over the first quarter of the last fiscal year. <br />In December there were 28 programs in the Library for children with a total attendance of <br />514 kids and 142 adults. The Christmas gingerbread story /craft program was especially <br />popular. The preschool outreach service reached 212 children and 51 adults at the 15 <br />daycare centers; and 360 items were circulated at those locations. The very popular <br />program theme was "winter fun ". <br />Adult outreach services reached 17 group locations and 9 homebound patrons with a total <br />circulation of 1,291 books, 456 audio books, 396 videos and 58 periodicals. <br />In December, volunteers gave 216.5 hours of service helping check in and shelve <br />materials. Also, that month, 683 new titles were added to the collection including 381 <br />books, 38 audio books, and 264 videos, many of which were holiday selections. <br />After discussion about the advantages of being able to dial -in to our Galaxy Online <br />Public Access Catalog, upon motion by Curtis Fendley, second by Fran Neeley, it was <br />unanimously approved to order the Galaxy compatible dial -in system from Gaylord <br />Brothers. It was noted the funds would be taken from the Library's Poteet Trust Fund <br />and Ms. Lewis would request Finance Director W. E. Anderson handle the transaction for <br />the Board. <br />
