Library Advisory Board <br />September 19, 2001 <br />Page 2 <br />There was no old business. <br />In New Business, Keith Williamson was nominated as a candidate for <br />board member, replacing Curtis Fendley. His name was submitted by <br />Betty Landon after a suggestion from Priscilla McAnally. John Howison <br />suggested promoting library materials dealing with current world affairs. <br />Friends of the Library president, Callie Thompson, stated that the Friends <br />Luncheon would be held on October 1, 2001. People can also renew their <br />Friends membership when they sign up for the luncheon. <br />Betty Landon, Library Director, stated that new blinds had been installed <br />today on the east windows. The Library will begin updating library cards <br />in January of 2002. A Library Advocacy workshop will be held in <br />Texarkana on September 25. John Howison and Betty Landon will attend <br />the NETLS quarterly meeting on October 9 in Mineola. The Paris Public <br />Library will participate in the TexShare program sponsored by the Texas <br />State Library beginning November 30, 2001. This will enable our patrons <br />to use other participating libraries and check out materials. In January, <br />2002, the library will receive direct state aid of about $7,000. The two part - <br />time positions at the library become full -time October 1, 2001. Betty is <br />working on scheduling now to begin operating six days a week. The <br />library is beginning a cd collection of audio books. Strollers have been <br />shipped, 2 for toddlers, 1 for infants. TLA district meeting will be held this <br />Saturday in Tyler, with Priscilla McAnally attending. Betty will be <br />speaking to the Lion's Club on October 11. The work on revising library <br />policies has begun. <br />The motion to adjourn the meeting was made by John Howison and <br />seconded by Peggy Guthrie.
