PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD
FEBRUARY 7, 2001
MINUTES
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, February 7,
2001, at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these
members present: Curtis Fendley, Sarah Gambill, John Howison, Fran Neeley, Rogene
Patterson, Nancee Salzman, and Walter Williams. Absent was Bill Strathern. Jimmy
Hancock, Friends President was excused. Beverly Lewis, Library Director, was also
present.
The January 17, 2001, Minutes were approved as distributed.
A Budget Report was not available.
The Statistical Report was distributed that showed in January, 2001, there was a 25.6%
increase in circulation over the same month last year. It was noted bad weather usually
means an increase in library use. The library welcomes an average of 470 people every
day it is open.
There were five preschool programs in the Library last month and a total of 113 kids and
49 adults in attendance. The new preschool outreach service delivered materials and
programs to 16 locations with a total of 124 kids and 32 adults in attendance; and a
circulation of 395 items.
The adult outreach service reached 17 group locations and 9 homebound patron with a
total of 174 books, 337 audio books and 37 videos circulated in January. Rebecca
Taylor, the new Adult Outreach Coordinator was introduced at all the sites and met all
the homebound patrons last month. A new adult outreach service will be the circulation
of audio cassette players when there are specific requests for them.
The seat in the lobby has been removed so that the new collection protection system can
be installed closer to the front doors. Then the shelves on the lobby wall can be used for
circulating titles.
The Board discussed the Internet Guidelines and the fact that E -mail access is now web
based. Upon motion by Curtis Fendley, second by Fran Neeley, it was unanimously
decided to allow Internet users to access E -mail; and also the Library would provide a
Visitor's Internet Use Card which would be available to out -of- county users for $5 for 5
uses. As before, all users must continue to read the Guidelines, sign the "Agreement of
Use" form; and adhere to those Guidelines.
