BETTY ARCHER
2730 40th Street S.E.
Paris, TX 75462
September 25, 1995
The Honorable Eric Clifford
Mayor of the City of Paris
P. 0. Box 9037
Paris, Texas 75461 -9037
Dear Mayor Clifford:
I called on September 22, 1995,
disapproval of my current water
would return my call, which to
be standard procedure.
r
ter` • -n''+ '"'-
to voice my concern and
bill. I was told Mr. Malone
date he has not and seems to
In eight years my water bill has doubled which is excessive
to say the least. I can understand water usage being higher
to an extent in the summer due to lack of rainfall and people
having to water lawns and foundations but regardless the sewer
rates should remain the same. I guess people can go back to
using outhouses. The stench would be no worse than the eight
goats and flock of chickens you allow on the half acre lot next
to my property.
My children have been in school for six weeks and are not running
in every 10 minutes for a drink of water (which I buy bottled
water for.drinking) and every 15 minutes to use the restroom.
Common sense tells you the water bill should go down but
obviously not in Paris. Instead the City of Paris holds you
hostage with a gun to your head. You either pay their excessive
rates or have your service discontinued.
I am curious and would like the following questions answered.
1. My August statement showed 34 days usage and September
showed 43 days. Why are the meters not read every 30
days?
2. My August statement shows usage from 6 -27 -95 to 7- 31 -95.
The September statement shows 7 -31 -95 to 9- 12 -95. Are
we being charged twice for July 31st?
3. Why are the water and sewer rates not the same year round?
4. Why was this reappraisal meeting not scheduled for the
convenience of concerned working citizens? Has the City
Council forgot they are elected officials and are to
represent the concerns of their citizens?
