make a substantial percentage of our Paris and Lamar County
population eligible for WIC services. This is a good
program which we support heartily and the implications for
the total Health Department budget were discussed. It was
also noted that the WIC program is reimbursed based on the
number of participants served and that 20 percent of the
total annual administrative costs must be expended towards
nutrition education. So that the total volume of people
seen in the program does have an impact on the number of
staff required to adequately run the program. It was also
noted that a substantial amount of money comes into Paris
and Lamar County in the form of food vouchers. For example,
in August of 1987, $21,371 was put into the local economy in
food vouchers. This does not include the income generated
from salaries and operating expenses for our local WIC
project.
One other item of old business was the question about
county approval of expense vouchers from the Health Unit.
At present, copies of those vouchers go to the county
government to Mrs. Myra Nell Wilson. Dr. Kraft agreed to
ask her if she would like to continue receiving those
vouchers for her review.
The next meeting will be at the Holiday Inn at 7:00
A.M. on October 14, 1987. Mrs. Sharon Seals, who is our new
Clerk III, will be invited to attend that meeting.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:00 A.M.
M. Thomas Cutre 1, M.D.
