Mr. W. C. Francis brought up the fact that the building, which
houses the Health Department, could certainly use a little paint
and fixing up. Also, the condition of the equipment used in
Mosquito Control being unsatisfactory, as old, out -dated jeeps,
etc. Mr. Doyle Childers, Commissioner, offered the use of a
pick -up which he had, if we were interested.
Mr. Travis Wortham, a Councilman, remarked "that before they would
consider letting anyone go at the Health Department, they would
first consider cutting down on Parks and Recreation Division of
the City ".
Dr. McMillan said it would be wise for both the City Council and
the Lamar County Commissioners Court to become better acquainted
with the operations of the Department in order to better under-
stand the need for it's services. Dr. McMillan also suggested
the possibility of forming a Health District to finance the
department's operations with tax dollars similar to the way in
which the old Lamar County Hospital was financed.
Mayor Malone agreed that was a possible solution and City
Attorney, T. K. Haynes said the Board had the power to pursue
such a goal.
Ron Kyle, Councilman, suggested the Board meet again with Dr.
Hillhouse and his staff, then meet with the Council, that most
Councilmen probably felt as he did, that he did not have enough
information to form an opinion or vote.
Mr. Deatherage, Chairman, made the motion that the meeting adjourn
and to meet in approximately three weeks with Dr. Hillhouse and
staff.
Dr. Hayden seconded the motion.
The meeting adjourned approximately 9:15 P.M.
Submitted by:
