Lamar County Rural Health Clinic
Funding Work Group Minutes
The Lamar County Rural Health Clinic Funding Work Group
held a meeting October 06, 1993 at 7:00 am in the Gold
Room at McCuistion. Those in attendance included Ron
Ragan, Evelyn Freeman, Raymond Armstrong, Dr. Cutrell,
Gene Anderson, Dr. Strom, Mike Malone, Mike Norby and Jae
Dickinson.
The meeting was called to order at 7:15.
Ron Ragan suggested tackling the issues on the first page
of the agenda.
The first question was who owns the Paris -Lamar County
Health Department. Mike Malone is going to check into
this.
Evelyn Freeman said she had talked with Mr. Butler from
the Texas Department of Health in Austin and he had
suggested that the Hospital Authority own the Lamar County
Rural Health Clinic. Mr. John Dumbroski from the State is
over the Rural Health Clinic program. Evelyn also said
she had spoken with Dr. Patty Patterson and had been told
there was money available to put up walls through the
Health Department, and grants. She did not know if
equipment was included in this. Dr. Patterson said she
would check on this and get back with Evelyn. Other money
was available on a loan, $500,000.00 for 20 years at no
interest. Mr. Butler also told Evelyn that he had toured
the Health Department and taken an exterior look at the
old hospital. He said that the existing building would
not work and that there might be asbestos in both
buildings.
Discussion was held regarding services offered at Paris
Health Services.
Evelyn talked about the March of Dimes grant for
$47,500.00 for 2 maybe 3 years. This grant would provide
$27,500.00 for half a years salary for a Nurse
Practitioner for 2 years, $1,000.00 for publications, and
she believed $4,000.00 for clerical help. She also said
that McCuistion had been asked to raise $10,000.00 for the
community to give back to the March of Dimes. Additional
costs for running the Rural Health Clinic will be covered
by Mike Norby and Gene Anderson.
There may be retroactive money available from the Centers
for Rural Health Initiative. Possibly as much as
$25,000.00.
