ud Ta,k (.tatted (_MethodfO lloch
2515 BONHAM STREET PARIS, TEXAS 75460
CHURCH PHONE: 214- 784 -3608 DIAL -A- PRAYER: 784 -5581
PARSONAGE: 214- 784 -4590 May 16, 1077
Mr. Joe McCollum
Director of Community Development
City Hall
Paris, Texas 75460
Dear Mr. McCollum:
The Oak Park United Methodist Church would like to go on record
with the city as being in favor of the development of the south -
west sector of our property bounded by West Austin and 27th S.W.
as a recreation area with attendant facilities.
It has always been the intent and purpose of this congregation to
have the property west of our parking facilities used for the
young people of Paris. Historically, this property has served as
a park. (I understand for years it was known and used as the West
Paris Park). What the church is seeking to do is to work with and `
through other non - profit agencies within the community to see that
this property is used to its best ability. In the past a large
section of the property was offered to the Little League for practice
fields. This field continues to be used for that purpose. Now the
Girls Softball of Paris, Inc., a non-- profit organization, is working
to construct two soft ball fields with attendant facilities. We hope
that in the future other organizations will seek to work with the
church for future developments of the area.
It has never been the intent of this church to allow our property to
remain open as a grassy meadow. The sacrificial giving of this congre-
gation and the dream of its members would indicate this churchts
commitment to more adequate facilities for all the young people of
Paris to enjoy. Therefore, we would appreciate any help that you or
the city can possibly offer to see that this land be used for its
initial purpose.
Sincerely yours,
'V t
Warren Bills,
Chairman, Board of Trustees
Oak Park United Methodist Church
CC Rita Dozier, Girls Sofbb all of Paris, Inc.
