Chairman Thornton advised the Commission that if the zoning were not changed,
the operation of the garage could probably continue since it has been there
a considerable length of time.
Following discussion Mr. Lynch stated that inasmuch as the only objection to
the proposal was from the Church and due to the fact a garage was In existance
on part of the property, he felt the zoning was in order and made a motion to
recommend approval. Mr. Pruitt seconded the motion which carried 4 for an 1
against. '
A public hearing was then head to consider the petition of Wayne and Gene
Brown for a change in zoning from an Agricultural District (A) to a General
Retail District (GR) on Lot 1, City Block 315 located on the northeast corner
of Lamar Avenue and Loop 286 N.E.
Wayne Brown stated a sales contract was pending, subject to the zoning being
approved, for a business development on this property. When asked speelf-
ically what was proposed, Mr. Brown stated that a motel facility with rest-
aurant and other business uses was planned. The motel, consisting of 100
rooms, would be constructed In phases.
There was no one else present to speak for or against the proposal and
following discussion, Mr. Fuller moved the request be rec amended for approval.
Mr. Lynch seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
Next on the agenda was.consideration of proper zoning for an unlisted land
use. Mr. McCollum stated the Girl's Softball of Parts, Inc. with the coop-
eration of the Oak Park United Methodist Church were developing two softball
playing fields on the church property at 27th S.W. and Austin Street.
A 12' x Zit' building was proposed for restroom facilltle$ and..concession
sales fusing the softball season. He went on to say that churchs, parks
and playgrounds were permitted to all zoning districts but there was some
question about a concession building being permitted In the residential
district with the baltflelds.
Testimony was heard from Rev. Guttlerreg, Pastor of the Church, and from
representative of the Girls Softball .'ref Paris, Inc. Rev. Guttierreg
stated the church's intent and long range plan to develop the west part of
their property for recreational purposes, not only for their members, but
for all the people of Paris.
Mrs. Elsie Talley outlined theta plans for the building stating it would be
of concrete block constr.}ction with no openings to the street and that land-
scaping would be provided to enhance the appearance of the structure.
Discussion by the Commission centered around existtng baltfieids and con-
cession buildings which were located with thus.
