The amendment of Ordinance No. 1215 establishing the Fire <br />Limits of the City of Paris was taken as the text item of business, <br />and the public hearing was opened. Kerry R. Sweatt reviewed the <br />same and reported that a Mice of the hearing had been published <br />in the Paris News on Tuesday, February 19, 1974. <br />Nathan Bell spoke in favor of "bringing in" the limits and <br />questioned the fire limits line going through the lot on 2nd Street, <br />S. W. and West .Austin extended and requested that the proposed line <br />be moved Southward or Northward. Jim Bell requested that the line <br />be moved Northward to exclude. the Bell property. <br />Mr. Sweatt reviewed existing land use, code requirements <br />and purpose of public hearings. The Chairman, Roy Ho Anderson, <br />stated that the City. Administration's recommendation. ' <br />ax to more <br />,the. Une Northward from Austin Street, on 2nd Street, S. Vii, to West. <br />Kaufman Street and Westward on West Kaufman. Street to 3rd Street, <br />S. W. After discussion,. the motion was made by Raymond T. Fuller, <br />with second by Herschel R. McKinney, that the Commission recommend <br />to the. City Council that the City Administration's recommendation be <br />accepted. The motion passed unanimously. <br />Kerry R. Sweatt reported the C:ty Engineer's: approval of Minor <br />Plat of Lot 1 and Lot 7, City Block 306. After . discussion, the motion <br />was made by Homer Thoraton, with second by Spencer Abbott, that <br />said minor plat be received and approved and that the Chairman of <br />the Planning and Zoning Commission sign the same. The motion passed <br />unanimously. <br />The request for Planning Study on South Church Street, from <br />Brame Street to Jackson Street,. was taken as the nett item'±of business, <br />Mr. Sweatt reviewed a letter to the City Council for referral to the <br />Commission. Mr. Joel Gibbons appeared before the Concussion and <br />requested that the planning area be extended from Brame to Sherman <br />and that the study include historical preservation and restriction to <br />single family zoning in areas presently zoned multiple family and two <br />family. Mrs. Joel Gibbons gave a history of the study made by resi- <br />dents and organizations and experience of other towns which indicate <br />that zoning should be the first action to obtain adequate protection for <br />neighborhood preservation. Mrs. Lee Gano Lightfoot spoke in favor of <br />the study including that area North of Sherman to preserve historical <br />buildings and streets. Mr. Sweatt recommended that the request go <br />back to the City Council for referral back to the Planning and zoning <br />Commission. Nathan Bell questioned zoning of single family and stated <br />that he intended to construct eight apartment units at CbAwch and Brame. <br />
