MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
FEBRUARY 2, 1984
The Board of Adjustment of the City of Paris met in a called meeting,
Thursday, February 2, 1984 at 5:15 P.M. in the Council Room, City Hall,
Paris, Texas with the following members present: Spencer Abbett, Bill
Lightfoot, Richard Nafe and John Williams, Jr. Also present was Joe
McCollum, Director of Community Development.
Mr. Abbett served as Chairman in the absence of F.D. Mallory, III and
called the meeting to order.
Chairman Abbett stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider the
appeal of Sam Gentle for a permit which would allow the use of a non-
conforming structure on Lot 7, City Block 255 -A located at 2635 E. Price
Street.
Mr. McCollum explained the reason for the request was due to the fact that
Mr. Gentle had converted a garage into living quarters for a couple who
was assisting in the care of his wife. Because of the single family zoning,
utilities could not be connected to the new living quarters located behind
Mr. Gentle's house. He went on to say that efforts to change the zoning to
legalize the use had met with strong opposition and the City Council had
referred the matter to the Board for consideration.
Mr. Gentle told the Board he had built the structure ignorant of the need to
get permits but because it was on a slab foundation, it would be difficult
to move to another location.
Robert Hood, 2625 E. Price stated he had no objection to the structure being
used and nont of the other neighbors did either.
Mr. Lightfoot commented that the structure was there and the alternative to
demolish or move was not reasonable.
Mr. Abbett said, that with no objection from the area, he could see no reason
not to allow the use.
Mr. Williams stated he had inspected the site and the structure was well built.
He made a motion to allow the structure to be used as a dwelling. Mr. Nafe
seconded the motion which carried 4 ayes, 0 nays.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
f), ry-u- C4L.
e N.
