MINUTES OF THE <br />BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT <br />APRIL 3, 1986 <br />The Board of Adjustment of the City of Paris met in a called meeting, Thursday, <br />April 3, 1986 at 5:30 P.M. in the Council Room, City Hall, Paris, Texas with <br />the following members present: <br />1. F. D. Mallory III, Chairman <br />2. Richard Nafe <br />3. J. P. Shull <br />4. Alex Woods <br />Also present was Joe N. McCollum, Director of Community Development for the City. <br />Chairman Mallory called the meeting to order and announced that the Board would <br />hear the appeal of the First Baptist Church for a variance to Section 9 -501 (1) <br />of the Zoning Ordinance on Lots 1, 2 and 9, City Block 182 located at 255 3rd. S.E. <br />Mr. McCollum explained that a walkway canopy had been installed on the front of <br />the Family Life Center, which extends into the street right of way, with support <br />posts in the street right of way. <br />Tom Lane, Dorcy Mackey and J.W. Harrison was present representing the Church. <br />They explained that the canopy had been a gift from one of the senior members of <br />the Church to shelter elderly persons coming to the Family Life Center from bad <br />weather. They stated that since similar canopies had been permitted on Church <br />buildings on the west side of 3rd. Street that the variance should be allowed. <br />They agreed to move the support posts for the canopy back to their property line. <br />The Board considered the proposal and discussed the proximity of the property to <br />the down town area where such canopies are allowed. <br />Following discussion, Mr. Nafe made a motion to allow the exception if the support <br />posts were moved back to the Church property line. Mr. Shull seconded the motion <br />which carried 4 ayes, 0 nays. <br />There being no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned. <br />J e N.
