MINUTES OF THE
BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
NOVEMBER 21, 1984
The Board. of Adjustment of the City of Paris met Wednesday, November 21,
1984 at 5:00 P.M. in the Council Room, City Hall, Paris, Texas with the
following members present:
1. F.D. Mallory, III, Chairman
2. Spencer Abbett
3. Bill Lightfoot
4. John Williams, Jr.
Also present was Joe N. McCollum, Director of Community Development for the
city.
Chairman Mallory called the meeting to order and opened the public hearing
on the petition of John S. House for a variance to Section 9 -401 (2) and
Section 10 -102 of the Zoning Ordinance on Lot 18, City Block 33 -C located
at 1625 Lamar Avenue.
Mr. House outlined his need for additional storage space at his business
and presented pictures and a Site plan of his lot showing a proposed building
expansion which would exceed allowed lot coverage and reduce the amount of
off street parking.
Mr. McCollum advised the Board that the proposal placed the building 938
sq.ft. over the 40% lot coverage requirement and reduced off street parking
to 20 spaces or 6 less than would be required for that size building.
Ron Billman, a property owner nearby, spoke in support of the request saying
that the proposed addition would improve the area.
No one else spoke and the public hearing was closed.
Mr. Williams stated he saw no objection. Mr. Abbett said it would be better
to go two story construction and retain the parking. Mr. Lightfoot felt the
variance would be ok if the rear 10 feet were landscaped and maintained.
Following discussion Mr. Abbett made a motion to approve the exceptions as
parking demand is not as great for an appliance store. Mr. Williams seconded
the motion which carried 4 ayes, 0 nays.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
oe N. McCollum
ecretary ex- officio
