MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT FEBRUARY 10, 1988 The Board of Adjustment of the City of Paris met in a called meeting Wednesday, February 10, 1988, at 5:15 P.M. in the Conference Room of the City Annex, 150 1st S.E., Paris, Texas, with the following members present: 1. F.D. Mallory, III 2. Richard Nafe 3. J.P. Shull 4. Alec Woods Chairman Mallory opened the public hearing on the petition of W.W. Ellis for a variance to Section 9 -601 (1) of the City of Paris Zoning Ordinance No. 1710, relative to sideyard requirements on the NZ of Lots 15 and 16, Block 2, Belmont Addition located at 765 17th N.E. Mr. Ellis told the Board that the existing garage on the north side of his house was not long enough to accomodate his wife's car and he needed to build a new carport on the south side of his home in which to store the vehicle. He was denied a building permit because the proposed carport would be 3 feet from the side property line instead of the required 5 feet. Mr. McCollum reported two objections received by telephone from Ronald Dixon and Joan Manson, property owners within 200 feet of the Ellis lot. W.T. Pinson, owner of the vacant lot south of Mr. Ellis, objected to having a structure that close to his property line saying it would decrease the value of his land. No one else spoke and the public hearing was closed. Mr. McCollum suggested he try to find room on the west side of his house for the carport with an entrance off of Belmont Street. A motion was made by Mr. Shull, seconded by Mr. Woods, to deny the variance. The motion carried 4 ayes, 0 nays. Mr. Mallory advised Mr. Ellis to ask Mr. McCollum to help him find a place on the property for the carport that would comply with the ordinance.
