MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF <br />THE ACTING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT <br />June 20, 1991 <br />The Acting Board of Adjustment met in special session, Thursday, June <br />20, 1991, 5:45 P. M., City Council Chamber, City Hall, Paris, Texas. <br />Mayor George Fisher called the meeting to order with the following <br />Council Members present: Don Shelton, Jim Bell, Millie Ingram, E. W. <br />(Bill) Booth, Billy Joe Burnett, and Emma Smith. Also present was City <br />Manager, Michael E. Malone, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, Fire Chief, <br />Steve Burgin, and City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham. <br />City Attorney advised the Board that the current meeting that is in <br />session, the City Council acting as the Board of Adjustment with regard <br />to the Standard Fire Prevention Code, and in that code it established <br />the Board to be called the Board of Adjustment and Appeals. The <br />portion that tells what the Board will be consisting of has been <br />amended in the Standard Code by the Ordinances of the City of Paris, <br />which the Board of Appeals is established in Section 7 -20 of the Code <br />of Ordinances of the City of Paris, and City Attorney Haynes read that <br />section of the Code. <br />City Attorney said the section that is coming before the Board tonight <br />deals with all premises where buildings or portions of buildings are <br />located more than 150 feet from a fire hydrant system shall be provided <br />with approved on site fire hydrants and water mains capable of <br />supplying the fire flow required by the fire official. City Attorney <br />said the fire official is either the Fire Chief, or he can designate <br />someone else, and the Fire Chief, Steve Burgin will be acting as the <br />fire official. The location and number of on site hydrant shall be as <br />designated by the fire official with the minimum arrangement being so <br />as to have a hydrant available for distribution of hose to any portion <br />of any building on the premises at a distances not exceeding 500 feet, <br />but in no case, shall hose length be greater than 500 feet, public <br />hydrant are recognized as meeting all or part of the above requirements. <br />Mayor Fisher called for consideration of and action on a request of Mr. <br />Toby Yoder for deviations from current City policies for a variance of <br />the requirements of the Fire Code on Lot 6, City Block 235 -A, located <br />at 1418 N. W. 19th Street (Section 603.1.3 of the Standard Fire Code). <br />Toby Yoder, Route 4, Paris, Texas, appeared before the Board, stating <br />that the reason he is requesting the deviation is there is about 220 <br />feet each way to a fire hydrant. Mr. Yoder told the Board that he was <br />going to build a concrete building with a steel roof, and he could not <br />see the need for the requirement. <br />Steve Burgin, Fire Chief, was present verifying the location, stating <br />that he had no objection to the deviation to the Fire Code. Mr. Burgin <br />stated the line service to this location is one of the best producers <br />in the City of Paris. <br />
