Budget Committee Minutes
August 25, 1999
Page 9
which is $255,000.00 for street lighting.
Under the Garage Department, Mr. Huddleston said this department has
five employees and he is asking for one additional person. The general
line item is very similar to what was budget this past year, and there is
no equipment request in this department. Mr. Huddleston said they
maintained approximately 278 pieces of equipment, and pointed out
they do bid out the vehicles lubrication and servicing all the way up to
the sanitation trucks. Mr. Huddleston said they did do the maintenance
work for the Fire and EMS vehicles.
Mr. Huddleston said the next Department is the Water Distribution
which operates with 12 employees, one supervisor at one half salary in
that, and they maintains 185 miles of water lines of all sizes throughout
the City along with taps, valves, and everything in that area. Mr.
Huddleston said, the general line item accounts for personnel to
building and grounds are pretty well standard with the previous year's
projection.
Mr. Wilson questioned the lease and rental account. Mr. Huddleston
advised this account is for lease- purchase of a backhoe.
Mr. Wilson also asked if this department pays the street department
$200,000.00 for street and alley repairs. City Manager Malone said that
is the account that is used to repair utility cuts, the materials and the
cost of the overlay. City Manager Malone said there is a certain amount
that is budgeted in the Water Distribution and in the Sewer Maintenance
for utility cuts caused by utilities. Mr. Anderson said it is not just the
City's cuts, it could be Lone Star Gas Company. The $200,000.00 goes
for material that is stock -piled and used in repairing the streets and
used for the overlay. City Manager Malone said there is no transfer from
the Water and Sewer Fund to the General Fund. Mr. Huddleston said
there is one replacement type vehicle placed in this budget which
replaces a 1985 3/4 ton truck with mileage in excess of 125,000 miles.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
