Budget Committee Meeting
August 26, 1999
Page 8
County Water Supply. Mr. Anderson said he would get that information
for Mr. Wilson.
City Manager Malone said one of the possibilities for the Warehouse is
the Lamar County Electric Coop's building will be available to us, and it
would solve a lot of problems. City Manager Malone said the city needs
an area for the Parks & Recreation Department to store equipment and
replace the building they are in. It would give us room for program
activities for the Parks and Recreation, administrative space for the Fire
Department and storage space for the Fire Department. It would
provide a replacement building for the Warehouse and it enjoins the
Public Works property, which will give us excess to Center Street.
Mr. Anderson said the Water Billing Department is the next department
for consideration, and asked the Committee to look at the capital section
of this budget. Mr. Anderson said he had $25,000.00 which is an
estimate from Yoder Construction to either repair or replace the roof of
the building. It also represents removing the air conditioners off the roof
and placing them behind the building. Mr. Anderson said he has placed
in this budget a new pickup, which is a replacement for one that has over
140,000 miles on it. Mr. Anderson said he was adding a meter reader,
and if you will look at the personnel schedule you will see that we had
four meter readers. One of the meter readers passed away, and he had
tried to make do with three, and had difficulty maintaining the 30 day
billing cycle. Mr. Anderson explained that with three meter readers in
the winter time it throws them behind and we will have more than a 30
day billing cycle which tends to upset people. Mr. Anderson said in the
summer time, they can keep up with it, and what they did when they had
the fourth meter reader during the winter time and bad weather they can
keep up with that, but during the fair weather they have three meter
readers reading the meters, and the fourth one swaps out the old style
meters with the touch meters. Mr. Anderson said that some of the old
water meters can be re- worked.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
