to Paris High School that is furnished by the city. They also have to go <br />from school to school and if one of the cars is needed in an emergency, <br />the other officer at the school still has a car available to respond. <br />These officers also work traffic in the mornings and in the afternoons. <br />Mr. Louis said they have a SWAT van which is not driven very often. <br />Also there is a crime scene van which is used on major crime scenes <br />and on special police events as a base of operations. There are three <br />animal control trucks that respond to all animal complaints that are <br />received. There is a warrant officer who drives the vehicle making <br />arrest all day long. Bob Hundley has a vehicle. He has to come in on <br />weather related problems throughout the year. There is one vehicle <br />that is used to sending officers to training, which is pretty constant, <br />and there is a canine unit. Mr. Louis said there are two older vehicles <br />that are scheduled for auction, and one vehicle that is at city hall for <br />any of the personnel needs a car to drive in an emergency or for <br />training. <br />Mr. Louis said the back pages of the handout are the accomplishments <br />of the police department, and went over those with the Committee, and <br />stated that he felt that it is important for them realize what the tax <br />payer's money has purchased over the past ten years and he went over <br />those with the Committee. <br />Mr. Louis said the main increases in the budget come in the personnel <br />cost with the 5% increase in salary and the vehicles that they need to <br />purchase for the patrol division. <br />Mr. Wilson wanted to know what a Mobile Cluster Grant was. Mr. Louis <br />said that is a grant that was received from the Federal Government to <br />place personal computers in each of the patrol cars. Mr. Louis said <br />that once the computer aided dispatch is completed, the cluster pack <br />will go in each patrol unit and explained that will help speed up their <br />response, service, and reduce the voice traffic probably 40 to 60% on <br />the scanner. <br />Mr. Louis said he requested a salary increase of 5% across the board <br />for all employees along with some structural changes within the ranks. <br />Mr. Louis pointed out that they have been having a hard time getting <br />officers in the department to take the promotional exam when it is <br />
