1008 COMMUNICATION SYSTEM $11,600.00
1. 6 EA. Computers:
Report Desk, Station One
1,500.00
Shop desk, Station One
1,500.00
Clerk's desk; Administrative Office
1,500.00
Station Three
1,500.00
Server; Annex
1,700.00
1 printer
400.00
These will replace three machines that are outdated and which are not Y2K compatible. These
are the Report Desk at Station One, the fire department shop, Chief's Clerk, and Station Three.
department.
The machines will link all fire stations for electronic data collection and communication.
Collection data within the fire department includes maintenance records for all of the trucks, air
packs, compressor, ladders, hose, fire hydrants, and many other items. This is done now but in a
combination of methods. All of the information is necessary due to state inspection
requirements, scheduling maintenance, researching maintenance, and scheduling replacement of
dated equipment. Records such as fire reports, personnel reports, and scheduling must be
accumulated daily at the stations and hand delivered to the annex office. With this equipment,
the transfer will be as it occurs and done electronically. Savings in fuel alone will pay for the
equipment.
Lastly some of the information must be shared with numerous other departments. Hydrant
maintenance is one example. As data is collected it is shared with Engineering, Public Works,
and Water Treatment. The data is used throughout the year to reference replacement and repair
needs, isolate valve problems, and to determine maintenance needs. This same information is
requested by outside agencies such as insurance providers, and fire sprinkler companies.
This is a priority purchase. We will have four fire stations, two EMS stations, and
administration. We have got to utilize modern communications or simply continue paying
(money and time) for obsolete (very) Manuel methods.
As an added comment, the department has been using some old machines for two years.
Basically a machine was placed at all stations and specifically aimed at letting the men learn.
Many are very computer literate and have shown those who were not versed a great deal.
