UNDERWATER EQUIPMENT <br />$14,600.00 <br />The department has had a underwater dive team for a number of years. The team was organized <br />at the direction of then Mayor Joe Graham who felt that drowning situations needed a more <br />conscious effort for recovery than using dragging equipment. The initial equipment was <br />purchased, and since then, sporadic purchases have been made when funds were available. The <br />team is under equipped. <br />The training has continued however. To justify the existence of the team, they needed to be able <br />to answer any need. The team is very capable for all water situations including body recovery, <br />diver rescue, crime scene search and recovery, and some underwater inspection and repair. <br />While the need is low, when needed there is nothing that will replace a diver in the water. <br />The men on the team request the following equipment for their own safety, communications <br />which is a desperate need in dark water, and protection. The waters of the area are sometimes <br />polluted, often very cold, and in all cases very dark because of depth or mud. All of the <br />equipment answer to each of the needs.
