Beginning Sept nber 1, 1991, wastewater treatment facilities shall be classified <br />in accordance with the following criteria: <br />Treatment System Permitted Daily Average Flaw Category <br />Systems All Flows D* <br />No Discharge Type y <br />pond Systems Preceded by Imhoff 1.0 MGD or less D* C <br />Tanks, primary Clarifiers or Greater than 1.0 MGD <br />Facultative Lagoons <br />Activated Sludge (Extended <br />0.10 MGD or less D* <br />Aeration Mode) and Oxidation Greater than 0.10 MGD to 1.0 MGD C <br />Ditch Systems Greater than 1.0 MGD to 10.0 MGD B <br />Greater than 10.0 14GD A <br />Activated Sludge (Modes other 0.050 MGD or less <br />D* <br />than Extended Aeration) Greater than 0.050 MGD to 1.0 MGD C <br />Greater. than 1.0 MGD to 10.0 MGD B <br />Greater than 10.0 MGD A <br />Trickling Filters, Rotating 0.50 14GD or less D* <br />Biological Contactors, or other Greater than 0.50 MGD to 2.0 MGD_ <br />Fixed Film Processes Greater than 2.0 MGD to 10.0 MGD B <br />Greater than 10.0 MGD A <br />* Category D wastewater treatment facilities shall be reclassified as Category C <br />_ facilities if any of the following conditions exist: <br />1. Any Category D facility incorporating anaerobic sludge digestion. <br />(Imhoff tanks with sludge drawn off to drying beds are not considered <br />as anaerobic digestion). <br />2. Any category D facility whose permit requires nutrient reduction. <br />3. Any category D facility whose permit requires the final effluent to <br />meet a daily average BOD5 or TSS concentration less than 10 mg /1. <br />The treatment facility classification may also be increased for those facilities <br />which include unusually complex processes or which present unusual operation or <br />maintenance conditions. <br />The chief operator or operator in responsible charge of each wastewater <br />treatment facility shall possess a certificate at least as high as that of the <br />category of treatment facility. Where shift operation is necessary, each shift <br />which is nut supervised by the chief operator must be supervised by an operator <br />who is certified at not less than one (1) level below the category of the plant. <br />Minimmt Certification Levels at Treatment Facilities <br />Chief Operator Shift Operator <br />Category of Facility (Operator in Responsible Charge) (in charge) <br />A A B <br />B B C <br />C C D <br />D D D <br />4 <br />
