nonpayment of the Hotel - Motel Tax by various Motels. Mr. Hooper <br />proposed that the existing City Ordinance be amended to provide for <br />specific enforcement of the Ordinance, and also put more teeth in the <br />Ordinance, specifically to increase the penalty for nonpayment or late <br />payment of the reports, it is presently 5 %, and Mr. Hooper proposed <br />that this be increased to 10% for the first 30 days of being late, <br />increase the interest rate from 6% that we are currently charging to 15 <br />to 18% interest which he feels would help to elevate the situation. <br />Mr. Hooper also proposed that the Ordinance be amended to provide for <br />termination of city services in the event of nonpayment of funds due <br />the city whether it be for a water bill or Hotel - Motel Tax. <br />City Manager Malone told the Council and Mr. Hooper that there is a <br />possibility of filing charges in court to get an injunction against the <br />Motel in order to collect the taxes. <br />Councilman Clifford said he has been in contact with the County <br />Attorney and he feels that collection and non - remittance of the tax <br />could be collected through the courts. <br />After further discussion, it was the consensus of the Council to <br />instruct City Attorney Haynes to research any changes that can be made <br />in the Hotel -Motel Tax Ordinance, and take what action that is <br />available to pursue all parties that owes the tax. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 88 -003 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 1710 OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS AND CHANGING THE BOUNDARIES ESTABLISHED BY THE ZONING MAP <br />OF SAID CITY; ESTABLISHING A COMMERCIAL DISTRICT (C) ON LOTS 2 -A AND 4, <br />CITY BLOCK 32.1, ON PROPERTY BELONGING TO G. A motion was made by Councilman Wortham, seconded by <br />Councilman Kent for adoption of the Ordinance. The motion carried 5 <br />ayes, 0 nays. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 88 -004 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE NO. 1710 OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />PARIS, TEXAS, BY REVISING SECTION 2 OF SAID ORDINANCE; PROVIDING FOR <br />THE APPROVAL OF A SITE PLAN; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF <br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF <br />MARCH 1m 1988 <br />was presented.
