MINUTES OF THE PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION JUNE 1, 1987 The Planning and Zoning Commission of the City of Paris met in regular session Monday, June 1, 1987, at 7:00 P.M. in the Council Room, City Hall, Paris, Texas, with the following members present: 1. Freddy Swaim, Chairman 2. Ozie Battle 3. Bill Davidson 4. Jacob Hildreth 5. Dorothy Smith Also present were T.K. Haynes, City Attorney; Richard Babb, Interim City Engineer; and Joe McCollum, Director of Community Development. Chairman Swaim called the meeting to order and the minutes of May 4, 1987, were approved as presented. Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of ABBCOS, INC. for a change in zoning from a Multi- Family Dwelling District No. 1 (MF -1) to an Office District (0) on Lot 1 -B, City Block 109, located at 219 6th S.E. Mr. W.R. Abbott represented the petition saying that he was not sure at the pre- sent time what he would build on the lot but that it would be some type of office building. He pointed out that the lot was the former house of Dr. Coker: There was no one else present to speak on the matter and the public hearing was closed. Mr. McCollum pointed out the existing zoning and land use on the north and west side of the lot was similar to the zoning requested. Following discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Smith, seconded by Mr. Hildreth, to recommend approval of the petition. The motion carried 5 ayes, 0 nays. Chairman Swaim declared the public hearing open on the petition of the First Baptist Church for a change in zoning from a Multi- Family Dwelling District No. 1 (MF -1) to a Commercial District (C) on Lots 1,2,3,7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14 and the south part of Lot 5, City Block 182 located on the north side of E. Austin Street, east of 3rd S.E. Dorcy Mackey, Chairman of the Property Committee and Tom Lane, Minister of Educa- tion for the church represented the petition saying that the north part of the block between Kaufman and Austin east of 3rd S.E. was zoned Commercial and their request was to zone the remainder of their property the same. They stated it would give them more latitude in building location than the current zoning. No one else was present to speak on the matter and the public hearing was closed. Following discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Battle, seconded by Mrs. Smith to recommend approval of the petition. The motion carried 5 ayes, 0 nays.
