MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL 42 J <br />April 2, 1982 <br />The special meeting of the City Council of theCity of Paris was held Friday, <br />April 2, 1982 9:30 P.M. Paris Police Department, Mayor Burnett called the <br />meeting to order with the following Councilmen present: W. C. Francis, Walter <br />F. Williams, Larry McGee, Travis Wortham, Joe Graham, and Ken Kohls. Also <br />present were City Manager R. W. Sokoll, City Attorney, T. K. Haynes, and City <br />Clerk, H. C. Greene. <br />Mayor Burnett announced that the special Council meeting was called for <br />discussion and to consider any action to be taken following the tornado which <br />ripped through northeast and northwest Paris at approximately 4:15 P. M. this <br />date. <br />The Mayor advised that the tornado affected an area one -half mile wide and <br />5 miles long. <br />After discussion a motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Council - <br />man McGee to declare an emergency and place a curfew in effect effective 10:00 <br />P. M. for a seven day period. The motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />ORDINANCE NO. 2615 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING A STATE OF DISASTER <br />EMERGENCY; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />was presented. A motion was made by Councilman Williams, seconded by Councilman <br />McGee and the motion carried 7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Discussion was had concerning the City Election to be held on April 3rd, 1982, <br />and suggestion was made that the Election be postponed for one week. <br />City Attorney Haynes requested a recess of the Council in order that he might <br />research the law.. <br />Mayor Burnett called for a recess. <br />The Council reconvened at 10:30 P. M. with all present except Councilman Francis. <br />The Council discussed the City Election to be held Saturday April 3, 1982. <br />Because of the tornado destruction and the ensuing curfew that has been <br />established, it was felt that the City Officials Election should be postponed. <br />Councilman Williams moved that the City postpone the Election for one week <br />and that the City Election be held on Saturday April 10, 1982 at the same <br />polling places with the same election officials. Councilman Kohls seconded <br />the motion and the motion carried unanimously, Councilman Francis being absent. <br />There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. <br />BILLY J.
