The motion carried: 6 ayes, 1 nay, <br />Councilman Phi i i ey voting n _,y. <br />Mayor Brunette requested City Manager Sweatt to review recommendations made by the <br />Council amending the city manager's budget concerning salaries for City employees.. <br />City Manager Sweatt stated that the recommendation had been made to increase Firemen <br />and Policemen beginning salary to $750.00 per month advancing to $800.00 per month <br />after one year of service and that all other Civil Service employees in the Fire <br />and Police Departments be advanced 15% from the 1976 -77 levels; that non -Civil Ser- <br />vice employees now within the salary structure of $610.00 per month and below be ad- <br />vanced 10% from the 1976 -77 level and that those employees from $611.00 and up be ad- <br />vanced 5% over the 1976 -77 level. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing open on the proposed increases in all <br />salary accounts in the General Fund, the Water and Sewer Fund, and the Cox Field <br />Airport Fund. <br />Mrs. Linda Clark appeared before the Council in support of the increases proposed <br />for Civil Service personnel. <br />There being no one else appearing for or against the proposition, Mayor Brunette de- <br />clared the public hearing closed. A motion was made by Councilman Wunsch and se- <br />conded by Councilman Fisher to approve the salary structure as outlined. After dis- <br />cussion, a motion was made by Councilman Malone and seconded by Councilman Stone to <br />add 22% in all salary budgets for non -Civil Service employees for merit increase <br />purposes. The motion carried: 7 ayes, 0 nays. Mayor Brunette called for a vote <br />on the original motion to approve the salary structure, as presented. The motion <br />carried: 6 ayes, 1 nay, Councilman Philley voting nay. <br />City Manager Sweatt advised that public notice had been given for an increase of <br />appropriation to the Paris -Lamar County Health Unit in the amount of $1,620.00 to <br />provide nurses with a monthly automobile allowance. <br />Mayor Brunette declared the public hearing open on the proposed increase. <br />No one appeared for or against the proposition, and Mayor Brunette declared the pub- <br />lic hearing closed. A motion was made by Councilman Philley and seconded by Coun- <br />cilman Wunsch to deny the increase in the Health Unit budget. The motion carried: <br />7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Brunette announced that the City Council would go into executive session to <br />discuss personnel matters, and the public meeting was declared closed. <br />The City Council discussed personnel matters. <br />Mayor Brunette. declared the executive session closed and the regular meeting open. <br />A motion was made by Councilman Fisher and seconded by Councilman Wunsch, authorizing <br />22% merit increases for the city manager and the city attorney. The motion carried: <br />7 ayes, 0 nays. <br />Mayor Brunette announced that a special Council meeting would-be called for June 27, <br />1977 at 5:15 P. M. for the introduction and passage of an appropriation ordinance <br />and final adoption of the budget. <br />
