)Sb
county would pay 40 %. The resolution can -be changed to reflect whatever
arrangement is made; but Judge Superville's letter does not give an amount that
the County will pay.
City Manager Malone felt that the city should go ahead with the resolution with
whatever modifications needing to be made because the city has already notified
the Houston - Galveston COG purchasing cooperative about the purchase of the
ambulance and we promised this used ambulance as a trade -in. He said we need
to make those people aware officially that we are not going to have a trade -in the
ambulance and the city will have to come up with the extra funding.
City Attorney Schenk pointed out that in the resolution to the County reflected
that $7,000.00 would come from the American Red Cross, 40% of the remaining
trade -in value, or 40% of $8,503.00 was $3,401.20 and the remainder would be
given by the City of Paris.
Ms. McAlister pointed out that they do have $7,000.00, but their Chapter is
almost financially broke and the $7,000.00 expenditure would really hurt the
Red Cross. She said if they have to give the whole $7,000.00, they would not
be able to upgrade the vehicle.
City Attorney Schenk advised the City Council that they will have to designate
a source of funds because the city has a contract with the county that says the
cost of operating the system is shared on a 60 %/40% of the shortfall basis. He
said this is the cost of the system. The funding for this ambulance has to come
from outside the EMS budget, if not, it has to come from inside the budget.
City Manager Malone told the City Council that the payment for the new
ambulance would come from the budget of the EMS department and that if the
city does not get $15,000.00 credit for the trade -in and the city expends the
funds to purchase the new ambulance totally out of the EMS Department, then
giving the used vehicle to the Red Cross would result in a split of 60 %/40%
between the City and the County as per the agreement.
