00075 t <br />Regular City Council Meeting <br />July 14, 2008 <br />Page 5 <br />DISPOSAL OF BUILDINGS 1 -4 AT THE CASA BONITA APARTMENT COMPLEX <br />LOCATED AT 7TH STREET NW AND HENDERSON STREET IN THE CITY OF PARIS <br />TO CHERRY MOVING COMPANY, INC. D /B /A CHERRY DEMOLITION, THE <br />LOWEST RESPONSIBLE BIDDER; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS <br />RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />Lisa Wright informed City Council that advertisement forbids were placed in the Paris News <br />on June 1 and June 8, and that bids were opened July 8. Ms. Wright further said thirteen packets were <br />picked up by potential bidders and only three were submitted. Based on review of the bids, staff <br />recommended that Cherry Demolition be awarded the bid for this project in the amount of $70,275.00 <br />for demolition of the four buildings, with wetting of debris being performed by the bidder. <br />Council Member Pickle expressed a desire to explore bidding the other buildings and <br />including the possibility of a recycling program and residential trash pick -up. Council Members <br />Brown and McCarthy did not want trash privatization considered with the demolition of Casa Bonita. <br />Council Member Biard wanted to know what action staff had taken about the four buildings that the <br />City did not own. Lisa Wright said they had not been able to locate the owner; however the staff was <br />in the process of pursuing options on those buildings. Council Member Biard said he wanted to get <br />the four buildings down and re -bid the remaining eighteen buildings. <br />A Motion to award the bid to Cherry Moving Company, Inc. D/B /A Cherry Demolition and <br />to re -open bids for the remainder of the buildings was made by Council Member Biard and seconded <br />by Council Member Kear. Motion carried, 6 ayes - 1 nay, with Council Member McCarthy casting <br />the dissenting vote. <br />14. ORDINANCE NO. 2008-020: AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS, EXTENDING THE MORATORIUM ON THE ISSUANCE OF <br />PERMITS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION, RECONSTRUCTION, AND PLACEMENT OF <br />BILLBOARDS AND OFF - PREMISES SIGNS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS FOR A PERIOD OF THIRTY (30) DAYS FROM AND AFTER JULY <br />18, 2008; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE <br />SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />A Motion to approve this item was made by Council Member Biard and seconded by Council <br />Member Brown. Motion carried, 7 ayes - 0 nays. <br />15. RESOLUTION NO. 2008-053: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF PARIS, TEXAS, APPOINTING MEMBERS TO VARIOUS CITY OF PARIS BOARDS <br />AND COMMISSIONS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES <br />FOR STANDING BOARDS, COMMISSIONS AND COMMITTEES; MAKING OTHER <br />FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN <br />EFFECTIVE DATE. <br />
