J ® Adjudication ❑ I Other (please SPECIFY): I 4.2 DESCRIBE the activities or services your project provides as selected in 4.1. The Red River Valley Drug Task Force will utilize these specific activities to address the trafficking of illegal drugs in the five- county area. All investigative efforts will focus on the persons involved in the possession, transportation, sale, manufacturing, and growing of illegal drugs. The investigative activity is fashioned to a three -prong approach. The first prong is the ability to take information received and develop that information into criminal cases. The second prong is the utilization of confidential informants to make initial purchases of illegal drugs. From the initial purchase, the confidential informant is used to make the introduction of the investigator to the trafficker so hand4o-hand purchases can be made. The third prong is to utilize interdiction units to work the highways to support open investigations, or recent information circumstances. A priority will be placed on the use of the interdiction officer /canine to interdict the person smuggling narcotics from the Dallas/Fort Worth area by the way of Interstate 30 to destinations in the Eastern parts of the United States. By utilizing this three -prong approach, it is the goal to reduce drug use and trade, and thus reduce violent crimes which are consistently interrelated with drug use. The Red River Valley Drug Task Force has a special prosecutor who aggressively prosecutes all illegal drug traffickers under applicable state and federal laws. This includes the ability to remove any profits gained through the civil process (seizure and forfeiture). In order to most effectively achieve project goals, it is of the utmost importance to maintain the level of education and knowledge of both new and experienced officers. Therefore, the task force actively engages in available educational and training opportunities. The Red River Valley Drug Task Force will provide investigative expertise, prosecutorial assistance, and manpower to all local, state, or federal law enforcement when needed. The drug and terrorism awareness education programs are ongoing, which is kept at the forefront and is addressed daily. A concerted effort will be made to heighten the awareness of homeland security and investigate all potential terrorist activities.
